This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career in communications while gaining hands-on experience across a busy Communications team.

As a Communications Assistant Apprentice, you’ll support a range of external communications activity, helping to plan, create and deliver content across media, digital, social and corporate channels.

You’ll work closely with the External Communications Leader and wider Communications team, getting involved in content creation, media monitoring, campaign support, research and communications projects. You’ll also gain valuable experience of how communications support a large organisation and its reputation.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll develop your writing, digital, organisational and communications skills, building your confidence and taking on more responsibility as you progress.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the Communications team with day-to-day activities, particularly external communications 
  • Help plan, create and distribute communications across different channels 
  • Draft, format and proofread communications content 
  • Monitor media coverage and help track and report results 
  • Maintain media lists, campaign trackers and communications records 
  • Support the delivery of communications campaigns, projects and initiatives 
  • Help organise and deliver corporate events and colleague engagement activities 
  • Carry out research to support communications and content 
  • Provide general administrative support to the Communications team 
  • Get involved in team projects, continuous improvement and development opportunities as part of the apprenticeship

The person we are looking for 

  • A strong communicator with good written and verbal skills 
  • Organised and detail-focused, with an eye for accuracy 
  • Curious and eager to learn, with an interest in communications, media, storytelling or PR 
  • Comfortable using digital tools and social media 
  • Able to manage tasks, meet deadlines and prioritise with guidance 
  • Proactive, positive and adaptable, with a willingness to get involved 
  • A team player who enjoys working with others and supporting shared goals 
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and basic digital tools 
  • Interested in developing their communications skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship
